Milazzo is one of the most populous cities in the province of Messina together with Barcelona and Messina itself. This city offers the best of itself in the bathing season being classified among the best tourist centers of the province. The city, being located on a gulf has two beaches, one pebbly (to the west) and one sandy (to the east). It is also the starting point for all connections with the Aeolian Islands, through a hydrofoil and ferry service.
The most important monuments are the castle (seven city walls) and the ancient cathedral, which rises within its walls. Around these two monuments the ancient city developed, today commonly called the ancient village.
